Open Source RVA presents:

MAYOR ON THE MIC! On today’s Open Source RVA, we welcome the honorable mayor of Richmond, Levar Stoney. In a frank and wide-ranging discussion with host Don Harrison, our new mayor talks about schools, his new administrative team, Richmond’s status as a sanctuary city, his war on garbage, and why he’s calling for a hike in utility fees, among other things. We are also joined by Brittney Maddox and Kendall Bazemore of the Black Minds Matter Project. This new organization is holding a three-day summit at Virginia Commonwealth University starting Monday that explores healing in the age of Black Lives Matter. We’ve also got another dramatic installment of Curtain Call, our regular segment on Richmond’s thriving stage scene, produced by the Richmond Theater Critics Circle. This week, Sifter’s Jerry Williams and Style Weekly’s Rich Griset review “The End of War” at Virginia Rep, and talk about the upcoming shows at the Firehouse Theatre. We also hail the return of Melissa Vaughn and Jessee Perry — the RVA Dirt Girls — who provide an ordinance-by-ordinance overview of Monday’s Richmond City Council meeting. COME AND GET YOUR SOURCE! Open Source RVA is Richmond’s audio news digest, transmitted every Friday at 2PM on WRIR 97.3 FM and http://www.wrir.org.
