• This SATURDAY! Monster Mashquerade!

Your support keeps us on the air. I’ll keep doing what I always do and play new music from Tami Neilson, Marching Church, Lorelle Metts the Obsolete, Rats on Rafts, TOY and Benoit Pioulard.

With my favorite holiday just around the bend, this week is filled with creepy, kooky, altogether ooky shows. This includes WRIR’s 9th Annual Monster Mashquerade (pictured), the 10th Anniversary of Silent Music Revival, and a screening of Pet Sematary, all of which I’ll preview starting at 5pm. Plus, I’ll give away tickets to see AJJ (formerly Andrew Jackson Jihad) at The Broadberry and Creepoid at Gallery 5!

Welcome to The Commonwealth of Notions! Yesterday, I turned 33 and I am going to continue the celebration through today’s episode of the show. I’ll be playing a bit of local music. Honestly, I am going to just play what I consider to be a number of my favorite songs ever written. Enjoy!

Look below for the playlist!

As Always, Thanks for Tuning In and Supporting All Things Local!

It’s only a few days until Halloween! Thank you for filling WRIR’s trick-or-treat bucket with the $40,000 we needed for our Fall Fund Drive! We asked, and you delivered, and for that I am truly grateful. Please enjoy this week’s selection of Halloweeny music, including songs by Fabienne Delsol, Gorillaz, Screaming Females, The Monsters, Siouxsie & the Banshees, and Eels.

First of all, thank you to everyone who has donated in WRIR’s Fall 2016 Fund Drive, our most successful drive in a couple of years.  If you slept through it or otherwise missed the drive, it’s not too late to contribute and have the personal satisfaction of supporting this awesome community radio project: just click one of the “Donate” buttons at the top of this page.

I’m joined once again this week in the studio by DJ Beet Farmer.  Her world music program on WRIR, Kisses With Foreign Fishes, will premiere soon on alternate Sunday nights, 1-3 AM.

In the mean time, she’s sitting in on Global A Go-Go this week, spinning a set of parents and their children and second one she describes as “super f-ing girly.”  And I’ll celebrate the end of the fund drive with all dance music: boogaloo plus some tracks inspired by Afrisa International’s appearance at the Richmond Folk Festival.
