Spring Fund Drive, Friday, May 6 presents:
So where does your donation go here at WRIR? This video of the Atkinson's live on Activate! gives you a good idea. The microphones, the cables, the soundproofing, the mixing board, even this website – everything that helped bring this performance to the air – are because of listener donations. The Atkinsons provided the talent; your donations make it possible for them to share this music with the rest of Richmond.
With just a couple of days left, please take the time to donate to WRIR. You do get a pretty nifty t-shirt, but you also get the knowledge that you're providing a vital outlet for creativity and information here in Richmond. Please take a few minutes to call 804-622-9747, visit us at 1621 W. Broad Street or donate online.
Greta B will be hosting What The Fontaine?! tonight 9-11pm with a special live performance from Iraqi metal band Acrassicauda (subject of the movie "Heavy Metal in Baghdad"). They'll be stopping by the studio on their way to their performance at Strange Matter. Follow the "Read More" link below for more information on other events today.
Great Food
Hungry volunteers (and even volunteers who are a tad peckish) will enjoy high quality fusion cuisine from Millie's Dinner and "Love-Infused" social cuisine from The Empress.

Cause & Effect Special Fun(d) Drive Show with Grave Mistake Records presents:
In honor of WRIR's Spring Fund Drive I have a special Cause & Effect planned for this evening. From 7PM to 9PM I will be interviewing owner of Grave Mistake Records Alex DiMatessa who is also a member of bands like Government Warning and Wasted Time. Tune in to hear how this local Richmond small business owner and musician came to run a record label and the bands that inspired him to do it along the way. How do the Monkees, Public Enemy, and Pantera fit in when the label is known for punk and hardcore? You will have to listen in to find out.
The other equally important side to tonight's one of a kind show is celebrating our radio station's fund drive. We are a commercial free community radio station that survives on donations from our listeners and fellow station members. None of us get paid, we are all volunteers bringing you one of a kind weekly shows that highlight music not heard on mainstream radio but from all over the world as well as local artists.
The person who makes the highest donation (over $100) during my show tonight (and pays either in person or via a credit card on the phone) will win a Grave Mistake Records Prize Pack that features lots of records from his catalog on top of all the usual swag you get when you make a donation of that size to WRIR.
If you would like to donate to our non profit station, please follow this link or call 804-622-9747.
For locals who want to tune in, go to 97.3 FM on your radio dial. For everyone else, stream the show live here.
You are also welcome to drop by the studio, donate in person, and eat some incredible food donated by local Richmond restaurants. Our address is 1621 W Broad Street.
