Party of One: How do you measure greatness? presents:
How do you measure greatness? Of course I'm talking about Mr. Bob Dylan, who turned 70 today. I can pretty much guarantee that if all I knew of him was only what he's done in the past 10 years, I probably would not care so much for him. Also, I don't care for all that folksy-Joan Baez-Pete Seger stuff. I think it's pretentious and condescends to the 'actual' folk who make music. But Dylan himself somehow escapes that association with me. It's as if his music-though folksy at times-is not some false fabrication designed to please the fans, but merely an outpouring to please the muses, fans be damned. And perhaps that's what's going on with his recent stuff.
But I digress.
Best I can figure, you measure greatness in music by listening for its legacy in everything that followed. And sure enough, Bob Dylan was/is great. You can hear his influences in just about everything from Soul to Rock to Country to Neo-Folk, and yes even in Punk. So happy birthday Bob. Come and listen to what you've made.

The Worst Mother’s Milk Ever! presents:
We are playing awful songs, tonight. On purpose. Just for the first hour, tho. I promise the second hour will be awesome! I am hoping you will find the first hour to be… culturally interesting, if nothing else. Basically, it's a bunch of songs that, upon hearing, you will be praying for a drink to recover from.
Some of the songs only reach their badness-pinnacle when you see the video that accompanied them. So I've linked to the videos for all of the songs in the badness set that had 'em. Just click 'read more' to see the setlist, and click where appropriate. Believe it or not, I had a lot of fun tonight. But I promise not to do it again for at least another year. Scout's honor.
For the record, as per usual, you can download the episode in all of its magical glory by clicking here. And equally for-the-record, we'd just LOVE it if you'd click here to check out our Facebook page, and maybe even click the 'Like' button after doing so.
