Books are wonderful and deeply rewarding but the truth is most people don’t read -very often. They’re also expensive and time consuming. Wordy Birds is a program about books and ideas that airs every Friday at noon on WRIR. Host Liz Humes has read a book a week since February 2005, when the first version of Wordy Birds debuted on WRIR 97.3 FM.

The program brings to the airwaves both local and international best-selling authors. The only limitation in topics covered is that the interviews are done face to face. It’s not high-brow book radio, it’s a book show for people who don’t read, hosted by someone that does. In turn you get researched informed conversations that are informed, engaging and sometimes funny.

An archive of Wordy Birds can be found on www.wordybirds.org. Publicists and authors interested in interviews can email Liz at liz(dot).(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Thanks for tuning in.

Will Snyder

I’m Will Snyder, a Church Hill resident and Wall Street Journal writer. I’m hosting a new public radio show called “Open Source.” It’s a one-hour call-in show where we’ll have the Richmond region’s top newsmakers and analysts in the studio every Friday. Each show is divided into two 30 minute segments covering two of the major stories for the week. I picked the name “Open Source” because I want your input, too, via calls, emails and Twitter.

Open Source will be on the air every Friday from 10-11am on 97.3 FM and streaming online at wrir.org. We’ll have podcasts of each week’s show available in the early afternoon.
We can take your questions in three ways:

1. On Twitter by sending them to @rvaopensource
2. Via email at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Friday, February 3 – "Film and Television Powerhouse, Angela Robinson" – Virginia State Delegate Betsy Carr

“Film and Television Powerhouse, Angela Robinson"

Born in San Francisco in 1971, Angela Robinson was devoted to theatre. That is, until watching a lesbian-themed episode of the NBC show, “Friends.” Believing film would better fulfill her goals, she began film studies at New York University.
Robinson’s big break came with her award-winning 2003 short film, D.E.B.S.  Her 2005 G-rated Disney film, Herbie Fully Loaded, is the highest-grossing film directed by a black woman, bringing in $144 million at the box office.  Her television experience includes writing, directing and producing episodes of Showtime’s lesbian series, The L-Word.
Robinson is married to fellow television writer and director Alexandra Kondracke.  They reside in an L.A. neighborhood called Los Feliz, which translates to “the happy ones.”
