The Man in the Gray Flannel Suit / Nighttime Maneuvers presents:
Hey Listeners,
Tonight we’ll be exploring recent interpretations of the great American Songbook. I decided to do this tonight after reading the latest No Depression magazine that recently arrived in the mail. It’s always a great read, but I especially enjoyed this quarter’s edition with lots of different stores about songs we often refer to as standards.
It also seemed like good timing because Willie Nelson’s new release of “standards” recently dropped (and we’ll kick-off the show with the title track) and it is the 40th anniversary of Carly Simon’s record, Torch, that was one of the first albums by a contemporary artist looking back on the great American songbook.
Funny coincidence – 6 years ago -almost to the day (3/3/15) I did another show to celebrate this great treasure trove of songs to celebrate Bob Dylan’s Shadows in the Night release. This was his first of 3 releases to feature standards and songs associated with Frank Sinatra.
So sit back and enjoy. Let some of America’s greatest tracks soothe you. Soak up the nostalgia.
