Dream Girl Radio / EXT SRC presents:
In a way I grew up on drum & bass music, but mostly through one album. Roni Size & Reprazent’s New Forms was the first CD I purchased with my own money. I was hunting for music similar to that of the game Wipeout and bought the album based solely on the cover art. After that I didn’t have much luck finding any related music. These were pre-algorithmic recommendation, pre-Last.FM, pre-AllMusic.com, pre-music magazine days. Living in a western Virginia city, all I had to go off of was what was in the “Dance” music section at FYE. Later on I learned more about jungle and drum & bass. In recent years the revival of jungle music has grown on me and I often thought I preferred that over cleaner styles like liquid drum & bass.
But, thanks in large part to Machinedrum, I’ve been exposed to artists like Alix Perez, Ivy Lab, dBridge, their labels and associated acts. While the production is focused and on-grid, it still has its roots in those Roni Size tracks I loved so much as a kid. So this mix is a bit of a deep dive in to that sound. I hope you enjoy the ride!
