Banji Kaicho presents:
Presenting Kojiki, a new radio series on Asian indigenous, folk and street music, named after the ancient Japanese chronicle. While recording music has merely a hundred years of history, I believe songs travel, legends pass and art reincarnates. The past dictates the future and music is climacteric in the process.
For this first show I keep thinking about two things – Hana, the flower and Shima, the island. Both perfectly harmonized with two of my favorite genres: Javanese Gamelan and Okinawan Folk Music. This is the tale of an island full of beautiful singing and flowers. The sea and wind, sanshin and gambang, and the voice and people.
