Global A Go-Go presents:
Hello and thank you for tuning in to WRIR-LP 97.3fm Richmond, VA!
Bill Lupoletti is getting some much-deserved RNR today, and I am so grateful he entrusted me to substitute for Global A Go-Go. I’ve assembled two hours of Sudanese music for you, hoping to inspire you to educate yourself on this amazing country and how you can help from afar.
As of October 2024, over 11 million people in Sudan have been displaced due to ongoing conflict and unrest. People have been forced to flee their homes, with many trying to seek refuge within neighboring countries. There are reports of famine, flooding, and cholera outbreaks. Sudan is facing the worst levels of acute food insecurity in its history, with more than half of its population – 25.6 million people – in acute hunger. That includes more than 8.5 million people facing emergency levels of hunger (IPC 4), and more than 755,000 people in catastrophic conditions (IPC 5).
For the most current and specific figures, you can check reports from organizations like the United Nations or the International Organization for Migration from which I got this number (Displacement Tracking Matrix https://dtm.iom.int/sudan).
I hope you enjoy my set. Below, I’ve included a written tracklist and links to resources that I encourage you to support and amplify within your network. Together, we make the world a beautiful place!
