It’s an honor and privilege to bring Filipino-American artist/producer and Planet Queer co-organizer Anito Soul into the mix, straight out of NYC.
Anito Soul is a Filipino-American artist currently based in NYC. Anito refers to ancestor spirits, nature spirits, and deities in Philippine folk animism. They are a co-organizer of the creative collective planet queer, a resident of 8 Ball Community Radio, and their sound is rooted in jungle, footwork, budots, field recording, world sounds, and anything bass- or breaks-heavy.
Their debut visual album, “
Amen, Anito!”, was released through Feeltrip Records/Balikbayan Worldwide. It explores elements of Filipino culture, serving as a meditation on relationships to land, spirituality, and what it means to be a balikbayan, a term referring to both shipping boxes and Filipinos returning home after spending time abroad.
And also, their mix tonight is a literal sonic jungle through all of the above.
