Church of the Ecstatic 09/18/24 – Video Game Music (and some earworms that wiggled into the ears of their composers
While looking up two old video game songs that sounded alike (Phantasy Star III’s Dungeon theme v A Link to the Past’s Hyrule Castle theme, which I play in the second half!) I stumbled across this Cracked article talking about songs that were ‘ripped off’ (Harsh!) in game themes. So naturally, I knew MY theme for the night. 🙂
It was hard digging up good versions of some of these songs, especially since some videos are missing, but I hope you enjoy this little cause-and-effect show of everything from 70’s-80’s pop, jazz, and prog, to Russian classical, to 2000’s nu metal, and the game soundtracks that picked up little riffs, rhythms, and melodies from them – intentionally or not.
