Cause and Effect: The Hero’s Journey with One Hit Wanda

1. THE CALL TO ADVENTURE OR CRY FOR HELP – THE MOMENT OUR HERO REALIZES SOMEONE NEEDS THEM – THEY ARE GIVEN A MESSAGE, DELIVERED THROUGH A DREAM, AN OMEN, A MAGICAL ANIMAL, AN ACTUAL PERSON, OR MAYBE EVEN THEIR WHOLE DANG VILLAGE. YOU, MY FRIEND, ARE THE CHOSEN ONE.

2. REFUSAL OF THE CALL – OUR HERO, THAT’S YOU, DOUBTS THEMSELVES. WHY ME? I AM NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO FIGHT THIS BATTLE. 

3. MEETING THE MENTOR – A GUIDE, A TEACHER, A TRUSTED ADULT OR MAYBE EVEN A WACKY WIZARD ENTERS THE PICTURE TO TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE IN FACT OUR ONLY HOPE, YOU MUST SEARCH INSIDE YOURSELF FOR THE COURAGE NEEDED TO DEFEAT OUR FOE! ALSO, HERE ARE SOME HANDY TIPS AND MAYBE EVEN SOME WEAPONS OR A BAG OF MAGIC DUST TO HELP YOU ALONG THE WAY. 

4. CROSSING THE THRESHOLD – OUR HERO LEAVES HIS PREDICTABLE LIFE IN HIS SMALL VILLAGE AND STIKES OUT FOR LANDS UNKNOWN. 

5. TESTS, ALLIES AND ENEMIES – THIS IS THE “FRIENDS YOU MAKE ALONG THE WAY PART” WHERE THE FUN AND THE OBSTACLE COURSE BEGINS. IT IS ALSO WHEN YOU REALIZE THAT YOUR ENEMIES ARE REAL AND MAYBE MORE THAN YOU BARGAINED FOR.

6. THE APPROACH TO THE INMOST CAVE – WHICH MEANS THIS IS WHERE OUR HERO FACES THEIR GREATEST FEARS AND CHALLENGES. BASICALLY THEY ENTER THE BELLY OF THE BEAST, RUN THE GAUNTLET, OR GO THROUGH HELL UNTIL THEY REACH…

7. THE ORDEAL – THIS IS THE BOSS BATTLE. THE BIG BAD THEY MUST OVERCOME TO WIN THE DAY, SAVE THE PRINCESS AND THE VILLAGE. THE BIG FREAKING DEAL.  WHICH INEVITABLY LEADS TO…

8. THE REWARD – RELEASE OF THE CAPTIVE LOVED ONE, TREASURE, A MAGICAL OBJECT, KNOWLEDGE, INSIGHT, FREEDOM OR SOMETIMES, SELF SACRIFICE FOR THE GREATER GOOD. 

9. THE ROAD BACK –  NOW IT’S TIME TO TURN AROUND AND HEAD HOME. OH YOU THOUGHT THE TRIALS WERE OVER? NO WAY, FRIEND. THERE’S MORE ORDEALS, MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY TO FACE BEFORE YOU MAKE IT BACK TO WHERE YOU BELONG.

10. THE RESURRECTION – THE MOMENT OUR HERO REALIZES THEY ARE CHANGED. THEY ARE A BETTER PERSON. MORE SELF ACTUALIZED. OR MAYBE NOW THEY CAN TURN THEMSELVES INTO BIRD OR SHOOT MIND BULLETS OR WHATEVER.

11. THE RETURN – FINALLY. YOU ARE HOME. YOU REGALE EVERYONE WITH YOUR TALES OF DARING DO AND YOU USE YOUR NEW ENLIGHTENMENT AND HEIGHTENED ABILITIES TO BETTER YOUR COMMUNITY. 

12. THE FREEDOM TO LIVE – OR THE HAPPY ENDING. MAY YOUR DAYS BE MERRY AND BLISSFUL AND YOUR NAME LIVE ON IN LEGEND!
