Women & Politics presents:

Today we talk with women in national and local leadership about the community response to gun violence.

Kris Brown – President of Brady United

As President of Brady, Kris Brown combines a lifelong background in policy, law, and grassroots activism with considerable strategic management expertise to help forge the direction of the organization’s programs and ensure the successful impact of its national and field assets. A veteran of gun violence prevention work, Ms. Brown started her career on Capitol Hill working for Rep. Jim Moran, advocating for the bill that would eventually become the groundbreaking Brady Bill requiring background checks on federally licensed gun sales. Ms. Brown has also served as the Chief Legal Officer to a publicly traded company based in Switzerland and as a lawyer practicing at the law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges. She lives in Arlington, VA, with her two teenage daughters.

Chenice Brown-Johnson, founder of Just C (re-air)

Chenice is a native of Richmond, Va. She started Just C because she experienced what youth of today currently experience and understands the importance of having a trusted adult in their lives. Chenice uses real life triumphs to mentor young people by connecting, developing, and empowering them to heal and flourish. Aside from her passion for youth, Chenice has three sons and is the wife of a youth football coach. She is a die-hard Philadelphia Eagles fan and loves exploring new things with friends.

Women & Politics presents:

Amanda Pohl – Candidate for Chesterfield Clerk of Court

Amanda Pohl is an experienced organizational leader with local, state, and national experience. Most recently, Amanda worked to make voting more accessible through vote-by-mail for people across the country.

Amanda serves on the Virginia Fair Housing Board, is a social work educator, building and teaching courses for graduate schools across the U.S., and runs a consulting business supporting businesses, non-profits, and political candidates.

She has previously served as a national Director of Programs to recruit and support women in political leadership and supported domestic violence and sexual assault response agencies – including helping agencies stay open and serving clients during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She worked with a statewide grassroots organizing non-profit to help people directly affected by issues in government advocate for themselves. Amanda served as her sorority’s National President from 2017-2020. Locally, she is a lifetime member of the Chesterfield NAACP and served on the Executive Board from 2020-2022.

Amanda holds an MSW with a focus in Administration, Planning, and Public Policy, an MDiv with a focus on Pastoral Counseling, an MS in Patient Counseling. She received her B.A.s in political science and philosophy from Virginia Tech. She’s a proud mom of two great kids and has been happily married for nearly 20 years.

Lindsey Dougherty – Candidate for Supervisor Chesterfield County, Bermuda District

Lindsey’s background is in nonprofit, local, and state fiscal management. For years, she specialized in local government financial analysis while working for Chesterfield County in the Budget and Management Department. She is intimately aware of the problems facing our district and is uniquely suited to face them head on, with new approaches that will positively impact the quality of life for everyone in Chesterfield County, Virginia.

Our current representation in the Bermuda District has left a lot to be desired; as our schools have been underfunded, traffic issues go unsolved and unabated, and development continuously outpaces our county’s investments in infrastructure.

Frankly, it’s time for a change. Lindsey wants to use her financial and professional background to improve the lives of all families in the county. She has decided to run as the next Supervisor in the Bermuda District and looks forward to connecting with you soon to bring much needed change and transparency to Chesterfield County government – in all of the areas that impact YOUR daily life.

Women & Politics presents:

Jessica Schneider – Candidate for Chesterfield County Board of Supervisors

Jessica grew up on a small farm in Wisconsin, which taught her the value of hard work and sweat equity at a very young age. Her parents also impressed upon her the importance of community service by being long-time Scout leaders, religious educator(s), and her dad was a volunteer EMT/firefighter for just over 40 years. She has an educational background in art/design as well as years of experience in the culinary/restaurant industry. These careers have provided her with a unique perspective and empathy that she utilizes when analyzing situations and finding creative solutions to problems, as well as connecting with people.

For the past 8 years, Jessica has been involved in the Bexley Homeowners Association in several different positions: Chair of the Architectural Committee, Board director for 2 years, and President for the past 4 years. During this time, 2 new developments were built within the community, requiring her to advocate on behalf of the HOA multiple times with county planning/supervisors and developers regarding issues that came up along the way. A process that should have been completely transparent and easy to navigate, turned out to be thoroughly frustrating. These interactions, along with the current attacks on our democracy and stripping of constitutional rights have propelled her to run for Chesterfield County BoS in the Clover Hill District.

Delta Bowers – Candidate for Henrico County Board of Supervisors
Dr. Bowers is and has been an advocate for the Fairfield District for the last 15 years through her work as President and Member of the Northern Henrico Civic Association. She advocated to maintain Belmont Golf course as a golf course in Lakeside, advocated for equitable property assessments, advocated for improved infrastructure, advocated for education parity, and economic parity. She works closely with Henrico County Administrators and law enforcement to ensure highly maintained and safe communities. Dr. Bowers coordinates with VDOT regarding median maintenance and traffic flow concerns. Additionally, she is an advocate for the less fortunate, people who suffer with mental illness and are victims of Domestic Violence.
She is Founding President of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women Richmond Metropolitan Area Chapter; Chairwoman, Renaissance Woman of Virginia; President of the Northern Henrico Civic Association; Vice-Chair, Capitol Square Preservation Council; Board of Trustee, Central International College; Board Member, Policy Pathways, Incorporated; and a recipient of the NAACP Community Service Award. Dr. Bowers holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics, a Master of General Administration in Financial Management, a Doctorate of Management in Organizational Leadership and a Certificate in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion from Cornell University.
