Women & Politics presents:

Today Sheri and Carol, along with other radio producers: Andee Arches and Varsha N share their recent presentation on One Mic Many Voices at the NFCB conference. It’s the annual conference time again and we couldn’t attend this year so brought our presentation last year to you..

Lack of diversity in gender, identity, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic range have long been part of media. Even with the advent of independent community radio, most voices are white, male, and middle class. How can women and non-binary folks intentionally diversify the airwaves? The collective One Mic, Many Voices started to bring diverse voices to community radio through intentional recruitment, training, and facilitation of production. Learn more in this session about their local engagement efforts.

Anderson currently works as a part-time front office receptionist at an elementary school in her district.  Anderson’s priorities include strengthening the public education system, protecting reproductive rights, enacting family care policies, and passing common sense gun safety reforms. Anderson is the Democratic nominee running to represent the 71st District in the Virginia House of Delegates and be a voice for all Virginians. The general election will take place on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.

Mary Barthelson – House District 7

Mary is an accomplished systems engineer in the space industry who is equally dedicated to community service and human rights and is most known for her work on behalf of the unhoused and low-income families in Fairfax County as well as her promotion of STEM education. Women & Politics presents:

It’s campaign season and we are checking in with candidates all over the state:

Stella Pekarsky

As a first-generation American, Stella has always fought hard for the American dream and to ensure future generations have access to opportunities to achieve success. As a mother to six wonderful children and an educator, Stella understands the value of a high quality education. She has proudly taught or served on the PTA at 7 schools across our district and served on many local boards and organizations. In 2019, Stella stepped up to serve our community on the School Board, where she has fought to increase teacher pay, close the opportunity and access gaps, improve Title IX instruction and protections, and successfully stood up to Governor Youngkin’s partisan agenda to strip away our community’s control over our schools. Stella is 100% pro-choice, pro-climate, pro-clean government, and pro-gun safety.

A long-time Centreville resident and a small business owner, Stella and her husband are raising their six children in this wonderful community and are deeply invested in its future prosperity.
