Ambiance Congo / The Other Black Music presents:
This week, we’ll have music recorded, mostly, after the year 2000.
If you like these more modern sounds, you can donate today and leave a comment with your donation to let me know.
If you like the classic rumba that made Congolese music the most popular and influential music in the diaspora, then you can donate next time (in two weeks) during the fund drive and leave a comment with your donation then.
Please remember:
WRIR is an all-volunteer organization. I can bring you this music only of you donate what you can to keep our equipment working, our lights on and all of the unique programs that we offer coming your way.
Please use that red button at top right of your screen to support Congolese music on the airwaves here in RVA and on the internet across the globe. Every little bit helps.
And here’s something to keep in mind: The Rumba Kings film is coming! The epic first documentary about Congolese rumba is near. Check it out here:

The Motherland Influence presents:
Some search for hidden gems on this day, so I have done the same.
After some digging in the crates, I have a group of West African vinyl records on hand and, starting in Mali, I’ll share some gems with you, There will be a couple of classic tracks from Senegal in honor of Senegal Independence Day today.
We’ll take a brief foray into the selva costal de Colombia for some wonderous marimba-infused Afro-Colombian guapi music, then go back to Africa.

I will be playing a mix of Congolese music today, starting the first hour with music from the late 90s and more contemporary music.
We shall see where we go from there.
As it says on the inner sleeve of the CD shown above, PLAY IT LOUD!
