Good morning and welcome to your holiday weekend.
This weekend celebrates our country’s independence. However, all of the 1st Nations People of Turtle Island actually lost their independence after Columbus was found lost at sea. A very sad fact. In addition, because of all the crimes committed against the indigenous people here since that time, most won’t celebrate this holiday.
The music selected for today simply presents a wonderful mix of the original voices of this land.

Good morning,
Welcome to your weekend! Summer is officially here, the grass cutting season is in full swing and we are able to enjoy our time together. We also just finished having the Super Strawberry Moon this past week. So this weekend, we will just enjoy the music. Some new, some not so new.
Last weekend, I was excited to learn of the Leonard Peltier Freedom Riders were riding through Richmond, VA. This past week Sunny Gardner hosted the Freedom Riders at her garden: Epic Gardens. She also had an opportunity to interview the riders. She aired the interview during her show. You can find the interview in our Archive for Lightly on the Ground. Good morning and welcome to your weekend.
I hope you enjoyed your week. And a huge thank you to all who worked on Monday.
Last week I learned about the 215 unmarked graves of children that were found at the Kamloops Indian Residential School in Canada. This find was just at one residential school. Can you imagine how many more graves we might find if all residential school locations throughout Canada and the US were examined? Canada had around 130. The US had around 139. These numbers are not exact.
I hope this discovery leads us into a time of earnest discussion and healing. We all need to understand that the US and Canada did not have a pious start. My prayers go out for the spirits of each child lost due to the abuses suffered at any residential schools.
I am dedicating this morning’s show to those 215 children found last week and to the many more yet to be discovered.
