Cause and Effect: November 11, 2023 – Marc Ribot
Today we explore the music and influence of fabulous NYC polyglot Marc Ribot.
Probably best known as a stalwart member of the downtown Jazz scene populated by John Zorn, Bill Frisell, Fred Frith, and other such weirdos, Ribot has a huge catalog of music ranging from Haitian classical guitar to Albert Ayler style free jazz. He has also worked as a side man on far too many projects to reflect in 2 hours time, from Tom Waits to Laurie Anderson to Yoko Ono and John Mellencamp.
We’ll spend some time on his influences and his peers, but will devote most of the show to his own recordings as a solo musician, band leader, and side man.
