The Haberdasher In The White City (Sweet Home Chicago) presents:
Hey Listeners,
Spent a week in Chicago with the family earlier this month. While we had a chance to check out many of the "sites", I think I had the most fun searching the bins at the city's best record stores. It's great when your kids are of the age where they want to do the same (the bill when you check out is a little heftier). We spent several hours in Dusty Groove, Reckless, and the Jazz Record Mart – pictured below.
I picked up some great music and decided to feature the music of Chicago (the city – not the band for anyone that has seen Larry David's Clear History) on tonight's show. While Chicago is of course known for the blues (and we'll kick off the show with some killer blues tracks) the city is the home to several great labels – Twinight, Nickel and Penny, Chess, Delmark, abd Bloodshot to name but a few. It's the home of the Old Town School of Folk Music (think Visual Arts Center in Richmond) and had its own folk movement. It's also the home of great soul, Americana, jazz, avant garde, experimental and tons fo great artists. Really our two hours tonight doesn't nearly do justice to the city's rich musical heritage, but we're going to have a great time trying and I know you're gonna love what you hear. So stay tuned…
BTW – are you a fan of Wilco – my son Malcolm recreated their Yankee Foxtrot Hotel cover art with his IPhone – pictured below.
