Welcome to another ‘New Music’ edition of the Lost Music Saloon. I’ll also give a musical tip of the hat towards Tony Bennett and Sinead O’Connor, both of whom passed recently. And although neither artist is known for their country/Americana leanings, I searched thru their respective careers for what might be termed each singer’s “most country moment” as a solo artist. I came up with: (1) a very early (1951) cut from Tony’s career – – his cover of Hank Williams’ “Cold, Cold Heart”; and (2) Sinead’s cover of Bobbie Gentry’s classic “Ode to Billy Joe”. R.I.P. to both.
