Softlock presents:
Welcome to Softlock!
Straw from Panoramic here.
Nostalgia in a cereal box is the mission, a sound collage barrage of CRT sampling. All video game music, commercials, ephemera, Saturday morning anime and cartoons! The 80s, 90s, and 2000s live on in this AV time capsule.
Archival finds include samples from the dub of “The Running Man” (from Neo-Tokyo) that aired only on Liquid Television in 1992, Crossfire, Link’s Awakening, and the other really bad Zelda rap. There’s a new Zelda out, too; it’s pretty dope.
Credit for the Moonwalker and Donkey Kong Country segments come from this gem of a Richmond-made mix called The Incredible Machine, crafted 12+ years ago by Joel and Andy. Their work is the inspiration for Softlock.
Send your recommendations my way! Strap in and enjoy.
