Breakfast Blend w/ Galaxy Girl & Friends presents:
Today is a day that’s celebratory for some, and mournful for others: Thanksgiving. And today’s show is all about FOOD! And since food comes from the land, I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge the Indigenous peoples of Virginia and express our gratitude for their continued stewardship of the lands and waterways over many generations.
WRIR broadcasts from Virginia, which was one of the first points of contact for European colonizers and the Indigenous people of what was then called Tsenacomoco. In particular, the Richmond region was home to the Powhatan and Monacan people. I think it’s important that we recognize the injustices done to these communities over the course of our history, and that we strive for a more just future.
